What questions to ask your ADHD Coach in a discovery call

You’ve decided you’re ready to get an ADHD Coach. That’s great. Now it’s time to find one. This could look like getting recommendations from friends, searching online, and checking out reviews. But how do you know if they’re the right Coach for you? Will you get on? Will you feel comfortable talking to them? What kind of questions do you need to ask when looking for an ADHD Coach?

Before getting my own ADHD coach (because I am also ADHD), I was wondering this myself. So you’re not alone.

Having the chance to ask your questions and getting them answered is essential to ensure you get the right person for you to work with.

What kind of Coach do you want or need?

Coaching isn’t therapy, but you can discuss topics and experiences that are very personal. Ultimately, Coaching is about you. So, finding a coach you feel safe and comfortable with is important.

That’s why getting referrals or checking out reviews and testimonies can be really helpful. As well as booking a short discovery call with any potential Coach to have a chat. It’s a great way to get to know them a bit better, find out how they work, and ask any questions you have.

Questions to ask when choosing your ADHD Coach

Everyone is different, with different needs, values and experiences. So, the following questions are a wide range of examples to help you break down what you’d like to find out.

After all, your discovery call is an opportunity to get to know your potential ADHD Coach better and see if you’re a good fit to work together. 

Thinking about what’s important to you can help you figure out what you’d like to ask. But this isn’t always an easy question to answer.

So, I hope you find this non-exhaustive list of questions helpful as you look for your ADHD Coach.

 

  1. Are they insured?
  2. Are they certified? Who did they train with?
  3. Do they have lived experience of ADHD?
  4. How long have they been a coach?
  5. Why did they become an ADHD coach?
  6. How do they tailor coaching to individuals?
  7. Can they give examples of strategies or frameworks they use?
  8. How do they communicate? Do they have options that work for you?
  9. What are their fees, and do they accept personal, Access to Work or business funding?
  10. How will they monitor your progress?
  11. How can they help you stay accountable?
  12. What can you expect from the coaching relationship, and what do they expect from you?
  13. What if I don’t know what I want to be coached on?
  14. Do they have a contract / Coaching agreement? Can you read it before signing?

Money questions you might want to ask

    1. Do you have packages, and how much are they?
    2. If I can’t afford your packages, are you able to create a bespoke package to fit my budget?
    3. Do you accept Access to Work?
    4. Do you accept payments in instalments if I can’t pay it all upfront?
    5. Do you provide invoices and/or receipts?
